Women's Tennis Begins Play at Georgia Southern Invite

STATESBORO, Ga. - Five Hatters won in singles competition as the Stetson women's tennis team began competition at the Georgia Southern Invitational on Friday.

Senior Lindsey Cable defeated Huekinghaus of Kennesaw State by a score of 6-3, 3-6, 10-4 in first round action of the 2A bracket in the Hatters' final tournament of the fall.

Sophomore Eveline Lepinay, in the 2B bracket, also won her first round match.  She toopped Bizinos of Jacksonville State in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

In the 3B bracket, freshman Carolina Meregalli didn't lose a game, defeating Grandison of Savannah State by a count of 6-0, 6-0.

Freshmen Marta Gonzalez and Isabella Fernandez also won in first round play.  The former came from behind to win 4-6, 6-4, 12-10 over Emory's Kelly, while the latter won 6-2, 6-0 over Cmilijic of Jacksonville State.

Seniors Diana Bukajeva and MayaBlue Stauffer-MacDowell lost first round matches in the 1A and 3A brackets, respectively.  Sophomore Andrea Crespo lost her contest in the 1B bracket.
