STATESBORO, Ga. - Three Hatters won their final match of singles play, while senior Lindsey Cable and sophomore Eveline Lepinay won the 2 Bracket doubles championship as the Stetson women's tennis team finished competition at the Georgia Southern Invitational on Sunday.

"The team capped off a successful fall season with the best performance so far," Stetson Director of Tennis Pierre Pilote said. "This was a successful fall season for our women's program.  Each member of the team is now looking forward to the spring season and its challenging schedule."

Cable and Lepinay won each round of the tournament before topping Clark and Goodman of Emory in the championship.  Freshmen Carolina Meregalli and Marta Gonzalez almost reached the finals of the 2 bracket themselves, falling to Clark/Goodman in the semifinals.  The freshmen duo finished third after defeating Bizinos and Kerindi of Jacksonville State.

"Eveline and Lindsey played quality doubles this weekend," Pilote said. The standard of their doubles draw was quite high and to finish as the top team was a great reward for their hard work this fall."

Senior Diana Bukajeva and freshman Isabella Fernandez also placed third in doubles action, having competed in the 1 Bracket.  The pair won in the first two rounds before dropping a match to Gordon and Satterfield of Emory in the semifinals.  Bukajeva and Fernandez won 8-2 in consolation play over Apostu and LaSure of Kennesaw State to take third.

"Our doubles again showed promise for the upcoming spring season," Pilote said. "Winning six of seven matches on the first day, and winning one of the two draws, was fantastic. Playing this format, with two full sets and a 10 point tie breaker in lieu of a third set didn't give us the opportunity to take advantage of our conditioning level."

Gonzalez also excelled in singles play this weekend, coming away with the title in the 4A Bracket.  On Sunday she won 6-4, 6-1 over St. Amant of Jacksonville State in the finals.

Fernandez also competed in the finals on Sunday, but she unfortunately lost 6-1, 5-7, 10-8 in the title match of the 4B Brackket against Tummers of Georgia Southern.

"Both Marta and Isabella played well today and in the tournament overall," Pilote said. "Isabella showed poise for a freshman, coming back from losing the first set 6-0 to win the second set.  Marta, meanwhile, dominated today's match.  From the first game, she was in total control."

Cable and senior MayaBlue Stauffer-MacDowell won their final matches of the tournament on Sunday.  The former won 7-6(5), 3-6, 10-8 over Gordon of Emory to take third place in the 2A Bracket, while the latter won 6-1, 6-2 over Castro of Kennesaw State to place fifth in the 3A Bracket.
