DeLAND—Ole Miss banged out 18 hits en route to an 11-1 win over Stetson, Saturday at Melching Field.

For the second straight game Ole Miss (2-0) scored in the first inning, this time via the long ball. With two on and one out, Will Allen smacked a three-run home run on the first pitch from Austin Perez (0-1) to give the Rebels early control at 3-0.

Stetson (0-2) got back in the game in fourth inning, scoring its first run of the season when Josh Powers doubled home catcher Patrick Mazeika with two outs. The run cut the Rebels’ lead to 3-1.

After a shaky start, Perez appeared to settle down. The senior left-hander retired seven consecutive batters between the third and fifth innings before the Rebels got to him again. After a one-out walk by Auston Bousfield and a single by Austin Anderson, Ole Miss pulled off a double steal which scored a run when Mazeika’s throw to second tailed and went into center field, making it 4-1.

A run-scoring single by Preston Overbey two batters later gave the Rebels a 5-1 advantage.

Ole Miss put the game away with four runs in the sixth, highlighted by a Will Jamison solo home run and a two-run single by Allen.

The Rebels tacked on single runs in the eighth and ninth for the final margin.

The Hatters were limited to just five hits by three Ole Miss pitchers. Starting pitcher Christian Trent (1-0) allowed three hits and one run in 6.0 innings, striking out six without a walk to get the win.

Perez was charged with five runs (four earned) on nine hits in 4.2 innings for Stetson.

Powers led the way offensively for the second straight game, going 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Hatters.

Anderson had four hits for the Rebels while Allen knocked in five runs.

The Hatters and Rebels conclude their three-game series at noon on Sunday.
