MACON, Ga. – Nathan Debut became the first Stetson University men’s tennis player to be named Atlantic Sun Player of the Week this season, as the conference made its official announcement, Wednesday. Debut, a junior from Toulon, France earned the honor after a perfect weekend against Lipscomb and Northern Kentucky.
Playing at the No. 1 singles position in both matches, Debut won in straight sets last Friday over LU’s Rob Mitchell (6-4, 7-5), then put forth a valiant comeback to defeat Northern Kentucky’s Mate Virag, 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 on Saturday, to notch his second singles victory in as many days.
In doubles play, Debut was equally as strong, posting a pair of wins with partner Hans Adrian Riseng at No. 2. Debut and Riseng defeated Lipscomb’s Daniel Hernandez and Rob Mitchell, 8-7(6) on Friday, then repeated the feat just hours later, this time against NKU’s Balint Zsidai and Jody Maginley, by an 8-3 score.
Debut has played in the No. 1 position for 14 of his 16 matches this season, compiling an 8-6 record with two having gone unfinished. The Frenchman has also preformed quite well in doubles play, posting nine wins with Riseng as his partner for the majority of the season.
Debut is no stranger of accolades from the A-Sun as he was named a Conference Scholar in 2013 and earned a spot on the conference’s All-Freshman Team in 2012.
His Hatters finish out A-Sun play and the 2014 regular season with a match at Florida Gulf Coast, Saturday, Apr. 12 at 1 p.m. in Ft. Myers.
