CHARLOTTE, N.C. – College Football Performance Awards, the largest awards organization in D-I college football, recently announced its watch list for the 2014 CFPA FCS Defensive Back Award, and a nation-best two Stetson Hatters earned spots on the list.

Chris Atkins and Donald Payne earned spots on the list. The preliminary watch list highlights 38 returning performers, vying for the top defensive back honor in the Football Championship Subdivision.

“Congratulations to Chris Atkins and Donald Payne on earning spots on the 2014 CFPA Watch List,” said CFPA Executive Director Brad Smith. "Atkins and Payne will be among the top players to watch in the PFL this season.”

All CFPA recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams. All players are eligible for awards at their respective positions; players are not preemptively eliminated from consideration. Twenty-eight CFPA winners have been first-round NFL Draft selections.

Last season, Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston earned the 2013 CFPA National Performer of the Year Trophy, while Eastern Washington quarterback Vernon Adams earned the 2013 CFPA FCS National Performer of the Year Trophy.
