Valentina Galbarini (L) and Carolina de los Santos (R) are marching on to the second round.

Athens, Ga. - The Stetson women's tennis doubles duo of senior Valentina Galbarini (Montevideo, Uruguay) and freshman Carolina de los Santos (Montevideo, Uruguay) pulled off a historic victory on Thursday as the 57th-ranked Hatter pair knocked off 40th-ranked Stephanie Dalmacio and Delia Damaschin of Wichita State in the first round of the NCAA Doubles Championships.  Today's win marks the first NCAA Division I postseason victory in Stetson women's athletics history.

Playing a professional-style best-two-of-three sets doubles match for the first time this season, Galbarini and de los Santos rose to the challenge with a commanding 6-2, 6-3 victory over the pair of Shockers in the opening round of 32 at the University of Georgia's Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

Stetson's entry moves on to the second round, the round of 16 in the draw, where it will face nationally fifth-ranked Merrit Boonstra and Allie Will of Florida.  The Gator pair dispatched 19th-ranked Whitney Taney and Rika Tatsuno of Michigan 6-3, 6-4 in their first round match today.  Tomorrow's match will begin at 2:30 p.m.; the winner will take on either #1 seeded/ranked Natalie Pluskota and Caitlin Whoriskey (Tennessee) or #18 Anna Redecsi and Selma Salkovic of DePaul in Saturday's quarterfinals.
