DeLand, Fla. - Stetson head basketball coach Casey Alexander has announced a new addition to the 2011-12 squad. William (Willie) Green will be joining the team after redshirting as a freshman at Western Kentucky in 2009-10 and playing for Daytona State last season. At 6' 7" Green is expected to play the power forward position at Stetson.
"We're really excited that Willie wants to be a part of turning this program into a consistent winner", said Alexander. "He brings much needed experience to our young team. To be a third year player with three years of eligibility remaining is a huge plus for our program."
"Willie is an exceptional athlete that will bring a lot of excitement to the Edmunds Center", he added.
Green was a four-year starter at Olympia High School in Orlando, Florida. As a senior he averaged 12.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 3.4 blocks per game. He finished his scholastic career with over 1,000 points, 750 rebounds, and 400 blocks. Green ranks as the all-time leader in Olympia High history in rebounds and blocked shots. In leading the nationally-ranked Titans to a 29-5 record and a runner-up finish in the Florida 6A State Tournament, Green earned All-Metro, All-Conference, and All-State Honorable Mention for Class 6A in Florida. The Orlando Sentinel named him All-Central Florida while he was also a McDonald's All-American nominee. In the Florida 6A State Championship game against Coral Reef, Green tallied nine points, 12 rebounds, and five blocks shots in the Titans' 69-60 loss. As a junior, he averaged 11.1 points and 9.0 rebounds per game as Olympia posted a 24-3 record.
Green graduated high school with a 4.20 grade point average, was rated as a three-star recruit by Rivals.com, and FloridaProspects.com listed him as one of the top 50 prospects in the state of Florida.
