Riding a six-game win streak and off to a perfect 3-0 start in Atlantic Sun Conference play, the Stetson University women’s basketball team made its debut in the collegeinsider.com Mid-Major Top 25.
The Hatters, who will go after their seventh straight victory tonight at Mercer, are ranked 25th in the poll, which was released on Tuesday. Stetson enters play tonight with a 12-3 overall mark.
"We certainly appreciate being recognized by our peers,” Hatters coach Lynn Bria said. “It is an honor to be associated with other outstanding programs. Our players have worked extremely hard and we hope to continue to improve each day."
The Mid-Major Poll is made up of teams from the following conferences: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Great West, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, West Coast.
Florida Gulf Coast head coach Karl Smesko is the chairman of the Top 25 voting panel. His team, with an 11-2 record, is ranked fourth in the latest poll.
The Hatters and Eagles will square off twice this year. The first meeting is scheduled for Friday, January 20, at 5 p.m. at the Edmunds Center. The teams will meet again on Feb. 17 in Ft. Myers.
