DeLand, Fla. - Sophomore Katie DiGirolamo (Bradenton, Fla.) of the Stetson sand volleyball team has been named the inaugural Atlantic Sun Conference Sand Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the league office announced Friday. Junior Alisha Hoffman (Leesburg, Fla.) was also named to the All-Conference Academic Team. DiGirolamo ranked second on the Hatters with 16 victories, earning A-Sun All-Tournament honors with freshman partner Stephanie Marin (Naples, Fla.) to help lead Stetson to second place in the nation's first sand volleyball conference championship event. The Hatters finished 9-8 in their inaugural year as a program. Hoffman won 11 matches in 2012, including seven times when paired with DiGirolamo. Hoffman, a Management major, and Business Administration major DiGirolamo were honored for pairing athletic achievement with a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher.
