Men's Lacrosse Hosts UNF

Over the weekend, the Men’s Lacrosse team hosted the Ospreys of North Florida at Rinker Field. The game opened up with a pair of goals by the Ospreys, but Stetson replied with a pair of goals by freshman Pierce Freeman, with the second goal coming with a man advantage.  However before the end of the first quarter, UNF scored giving them the 3-2 lead after one quarter of play.  UNF opened up the second quarter with the first three goals, the first two scored by Grant Walker, and the third scored by Joe Espinosa, giving UNF a 6-2 lead midway through the second quarter. Stetson responded with the next two goals of the quarter, scored by Phil Jabornik and Freeman, giving him a hat trick before halftime.  With those goals Stetson cut the lead down to 6-4 at halftime. 

            Coming out of halftime Stetson fought hard for all the ground balls, but UNF scored three times in the third quarter, with two goals by Walker, giving him four by the end of the quarter, and Derek Hammock, giving him three by the end of the quarter.  The score at the end of three quarters of play was 9-4 in favor of UNF.  The final quarter of play started with a goal by Walker for UNF, giving UNF a 10-4 lead.  Stetson played tough defense for most of the game, but over a four minute span midway through the fourth quarter UNF scored three quick goals. However, Stetson quickly responded by scoring their first goal of the second half with a goal by Jabornik, with Freeman assisting with the goal. UNF scored the two more goals before time expired giving them a win with the final score 15-5. Pierce Freeman finished the game with 3 goals and 1 assist to lead Stetson in scoring, while Grant Walker led UNF in scoring with 5 goals and 2 assists.  Stetson’s next game will be in Ft. Myers to face Florida Gulf Coast and Emery Riddle in a round robin on Saturday February 9th. The next home game for Stetson will be in a round-robin format on February 16th with Flager and Eckerd Colleges. Games will start at noon on Rinker Field.
