The Stetson women's tennis team (2-0) returns to the court
this Friday, playing host to Iowa State (0-2) at 2:30 p.m. It will be "Poster Day" at the Mandy Stoll
Tennis Center, as the Hatters will hand out signed posters to fans in
attendance.
The Hatters enter Friday's contest having won their first
two matches of the season. They opened with a 7-0 win over Flagler College on
Feb. 2, and recently defeated Charleston Southern 5-2 on Feb. 9. In both
matches, Stetson has got off to a strong start by winning the doubles point,
giving the team momentum heading into singles play.
"We are pleased with the way the team has started the
season," Assistant Coach Christophe Noblet said. "But everybody also
understands that we need to improve every time we step on the court."
That next time will be Friday against Iowa State, who enters
the match at 0-2 after losing its first two matches of the season to Iowa and
Marquette. Iowa State will be the first Big 12 Conference opponent the Hatters
have faced since facing the Cyclones back on March 18, 2003.
"Iowa State has an excellent squad," Director of Tennis
Pierre Pilote said. "They play one of the strongest schedules in the nation
every year, so they are accustomed to a high level of competition. This is
definitely a match that our ladies were looking forward to since the beginning
of the season."
If fans can't make it out to the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center
on Friday for "Poster Day," live stat updates will be available on
GoHatters.com, and the @StetsonTennis Twitter feed will provide updates all
afternoon long.
