INDUSTRY HILLS, Cal. – Stetson University junior Claudia Redinger enters today’s final round of play at the Folino Invitation within two shots of the lead.
Redinger jumped from a tie for 20th after the opening round of play to a tie for third after firing an even-par 71 in the second round of the tournament, which is being hosted by Cal State Fullerton on the Babe Didrikson Course.
Portland State’s Aram Choi followed an opening round score of 75 with a 72 on Monday to take a one-shot lead into today’s final round of play. Seven players enter play today within three shots of the lead.
Redinger bounced back from some early second round struggles, which produced two bogeys and two double bogeys in the first five holes, to birdie six of the last 11 holes. Her six birdies on Monday has her tied for the overall tournament lead in that category.
Redinger’s strong play on the back nine helped the Hatters jump three spots in the team standings entering the final round. Stetson’s 308 in the second round moved the Hatters to eighth place in the 12-team field, 25 shots off the overall lead.
Defending champion Gonzaga holds an eight stroke lead over second place UC Riverside entering the final round. Riverside charged into contention on Monday be becoming the first team to break 300 in the event.
In addition to Redinger, three of the other four players for the Hatters posted improved scores in the second round. Jenna Hoecker (82-78=160) and Sammi Smith (83-79=162) both improved by four shots from their opening rounds. Ryan Ashburn (83-80=163) made a three shot improvement. Mallory Viera (81-85=166) struggled during her second round and slipped in the standings.
Today’s final round, which will see the Hatters paired with players from Cal Poly and Wyoming, is scheduled for a 10:30 a.m. (ET) shotgun start.
