The Stetson softball team learned Saturday that its first-round opponent for the 2013 Atlantic Sun Conference Softball Championship will be third-seeded FGCU, with the tournament opener scheduled for 4:00 p.m. (ET) Wednesday afternoon in Nashville, Tenn. Lipscomb University will serve as the host institution.
The Hatters finished the regular season with a 30-20 record overall and an even 13-13 mark in Atlantic Sun play. Stetson will be the sixth-seed in the double elimination tournament for the second straight year. The Hatters enter the tournament having won 10 of its last 14 games overall.
The Eagles completed the regular season 35-16 overall, 16-7 in the A-Sun. FGCU won all three head-to-head meetings vs. Stetson in the first conference series of the year, March 16-17 in Fort Myers, Fla.
The winner of the Stetson-FGCU match-up will advance to play second-seeded USC Upstate on Thursday at 11 a.m. ET. UNF claimed the regular season championship and the no. 1 seed for the tournament.
Host Lipscomb earned the fourth seed and Kennesaw State will be the fifth seed.
Each game of the tournament from Wednesday through Friday can be seen for free on A-Sun.TV. Saturday's championship will air on ESPN3. Tickets are available for $10 per day or $25 for an all-tournament pass.
