Stetson University football coach Roger Hughes hired Atif Austin as the Hatters running backs coach, effecting August 1, 2013.

A native of Tampa, Fla., Austin spent five seasons as an assistant coach at Northern Iowa after completing a graduate assistant position at Southwest Minnesota State. He coached running backs at UNI.

A graduate of Iowa State University, Austin was a four-year varsity letterman and a four-year starter from 1999-2002. The Cyclones participated in the 2001 Independence Bowl and the 2002 Humanitarian Bowl. He received Big 12 honorable mention honors in 2001 and was given the Reuben J. Miller Award his senior year, designated for the player whose conduct on and off the field brings honor to ISU.

Austin played at Tarpon Springs High School in Tampa as a tailback, quarterback, cornerback and wide receiver and was voted Most Valuable Player his senior year. He also earned letters in wrestling and track and field.

He returned to his alma mater as head coach in 2010, doubling as offensive coordinator.

Austin graduated from ISU in 2003 with a B.A. in Sociology and received his masters in Leadership and Education from Southern Minnesota in 2005.
