Senior Alyssa Welsh was named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team for her performance on the field and in the classroom, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday afternoon.

Welsh, who earned Atlantic Sun Academic All-Conference honors just a day ago, was the only A-Sun student-athlete to be honored by CoSIDA on Thursday. She also becomes just the third Stetson women’s soccer player to receive the accolades, joining former Hatters Kara Martin (’03, ’04, ’05) and Carrie Lorenz (’03).

Helping to lead Stetson back to the A-Sun Tournament for the first time since 2010, Welsh has scored four goals and added two assists for the Hatters as a senior. Her four goals and 10 total points lead the team, and her 15 career goals are the most of any current Hatters.

Welsh and fifth seeded Stetson will challenge fourth seeded Mercer in in the first round of the A-Sun Championships in Macon, Ga. this Saturday at 7:00 p.m. The A-Sun semifinals and finals will be held in Fort Myers, Fla. on the campus of Florida Gulf Coast University.
