In preparing for the second season in program history, the Stetson lacrosse team has chosen its captains and leadership council for the 2014 campaign, Hatters head coach Nicole Moore announced on Wednesday.
“I am thrilled to have these three student-athletes voted by their peers to be captains,” Moore said. “Each one brings a different leadership style and will work very well together. I am excited for the addition of the leadership council, where the underclassmen chosen can step up as leaders, grow, and assist in all facets of guiding this program.”
Guilday, an Atlantic Sun All-Freshman Team goalkeeper last season, said that “being captain for the 2014 season is such an honor. This year we brought in a lot of new talent and great things are to come. Last year we built our foundation for the program and we will look to improve on that this season. I am honored to be a voice for this team because I am proud of this team. I strive to be confident and loyal to both my teammates and coaches. I want to bring out the best in everyone on this team.”
Broderick, another All-Freshman Team selection in her first season with the Hatters, said that “it really means a lot to be a captain of this team because our program has gone from building the legacy to a whole new level by going the extra mile to continue to improve and grow as a program. As a captain I will bring a positive attitude and a strong work ethic to the team.”
“I feel so honored to have been chosen as one of the captains to represent this team,” Parker said. “As one named leader, I have made it my goal to be a role model in all aspects of the term. I feel a great sense of responsibility to be both a vocal and non-vocal presence within the team. I aim to hold the girls accountable, and expect them to do the same to me. This year is all about building on top of the legacy we began last fall, and I would say that it is easy to tell how excited we all are for the season.”
Newcomers to the Stetson squad this season, freshmen Lindsay Summers, Julia Lozano, and Erin Busch were selected by their teammates to be members of the leadership council. The council will support and assist the captains and coaching staff throughout the year.
“It is an incredible opportunity to be a part of the leadership council,” Summers said. “Few people receive the opportunity to be a leader as a freshman, so I am very honored to be on this council. I look forward to working with the other members, the captains, and the coaches. Together we can push our team to high levels and ultimately have a great season. I will bring my knowledge of the game, intensity, and drive to this year’s leadership council.”
“It is an honor to be voted by the team to be on the leadership council,” Lozano said. “I cannot wait to bring my positive attitude, hard work, and support to the team. I can tell this season is going to be a great one!”
“It’s really exciting to be a part of this new program in general, but now that I get to be a part of this council, it’s even better,” Busch said. “As a leader I will be open to teammates’ opinions, and bring positive energy on and off the field. It’s important to have good chemistry not only on the field but also in the weight room, in the locker room, and around campus. The little things are what make us strong as a team and those little things are what lead to big accomplishments.”
