The Hatternauts tied up the Hatter Series on Wednesday, shutting out the Dunn Deals 4-0.
Freshman right-hander Taylor Cockrell started the game and made a statement by pitching four strong innings, punching out three, walking two and only surrendering one hit.  Fellow freshman right-hander Mitchell Jordan followed Cockrell with two solid innings and sophomore right-hander Josh Thorne slammed the door shut in the seventh, striking out the side with one walk.
The Nauts got all the runs they needed in in the top of the first inning. After lead-off hitter and sophomore second baseman Kevin Fagan opened with a walk off Deals starter Trey Norris, junior Tyler Bocock sent Fagan to third on a perfectly executed hit-and-run single to right field.  Sophomore catcher Pat Mazeika followed with a sac fly to deep center field that plated Fagan for a 1-0 lead. After a fly out to center field by Cockrell, senior Kurt Schluter doubled home Bocock for the second run of the inning.  Schluter was cut down at 3rd base trying to stretch the double into a triple for the last out of the inning but the Nauts had a 2-0 lead.
The Nauts struck again in the fifth with a two out rally when freshman outfielder Jordan Schulz walked and then stole second.  Freshman infielder Mitch Piatnik singled sharply to right scoring Schulz from second.  Piatnik moved to third on a soft single by Fagan that fell in front of Deals junior left fielder Darby McCormick.  The final run of the game was scored when Piatnik came home on a wild pitch by freshman right-hander Griffin Fuller.
The deciding Game Five is set for 3 p.m., Friday, at Melching Field.
