After a rough opening weekend at home, Stetson baseball hits the road for a mid-week tilt against intra-state rival FIU, 5 p.m., Wednesday, in Miami.
The Hatters (0-3) are looking to bounce back after being swept at Melching Field by SEC power Ole Miss over the weekend. FIU (4-0) opened the season by sweeping Rutgers in a four-game series in Miami last weekend.
Freshman right-hander Mitchell Jordan is expected to get the start on Wednesday after an impressive debut in relief on Friday. Jordan tossed 3.1 scoreless innings of relief against the Rebels, limiting Ole Miss to three hits while striking out five without a walk.
FIU is expected to counter with fellow freshman righty Chris Mourelle (0-0).
Junior RHP/1B/DH Josh Powers was one of the few Hatters who enjoyed a strong weekend against the Rebels. Powers was 4-for-5 with a double, RBI and two walks at the plate in his career offensive appearances on Friday and Saturday, and tossed five solid innings on Sunday in his season’s first start.
Junior shortstop Tyler Bocock enjoyed the first three-hit game of his career on Sunday, collecting a pair of doubles and scoring a run as well.
