Stetson women’s soccer head coach Manoj Khettry announced the Hatters’ spring schedule on Wednesday, which includes eight matches in the span of a month, seven being held at the Stetson Athletic Training Center.
“The players have been working hard and I know they are looking forward to playing someone other than each other,” Khettry said. “I’m eager to see whether or not we have improved in some specific target areas, which we identified after the fall and during the early part of the spring.”
The Hatters open up on March 15, hosting Florida Tech at 1:30 p.m. and then playing a 7-on-7 game with Webber International at 4:30 p.m. Florida Tech and Webber will also play in DeLand at 3:15 p.m. On March 28 Stetson will welcome Flagler and St. Leo to town for another round robin. The Hatters will challenge Flagler at 6:00 p.m. and St. Leo at 8:30 p.m.
Stetson will continue its days of multiple matches on April 5, hosting Florida Southern, Tampa, and North Florida for an afternoon of soccer. The Hatters take on Florida Southern at 4:15 p.m., and then play Tampa at 6:45 p.m. UNF will challenge the two non-Stetson teams at 3:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
The Hatters conclude the fall with a pair of single games, one at home and one on the road. Stetson hosts Rollins on April 8 at 7:00 p.m., and then travels to Tampa to take on USF April 12 at 2:00 p.m.
“While the players have been working to get fitter, faster, stronger and become technically cleaner; we are focusing on a few key areas such as defending, possession, transition, finishing and our psychological intensity to compete for 90 minutes,” said Khettry.
“The only way we have to test to see if we have improved in the aforementioned areas is to play games against opponents,” he went on to say. “We purposely tried to get two games on as many days as possible to help us with our fitness and our mentality to compete. We are fortunate to end with USF on the road. It will be a stern test for us and I’m excited to see how we handle that game in particular.”
