For the first time in three seasons, the Stetson sand volleyball team defeated UNF Friday, winning by a score of 3-2 at the Ron Jon Beach N Boards Fest in Cocoa Beach, Fla.

Led by wins at the no. 2, 3, and 5 positions, the Hatters defeated their conference rivals and improved to 3-0 on the season.

Two Hatters were victorious in their season debuts Friday.  Graduate student Rachael Farrell made her first appearance in a Hatter uniform and teamed with Julie Bassett for a 2-0 victory at the no. 2 seed. Catherine Coston was also triumphant in her season debut, a 2-0 win with Savannah Byl at the number three spot.

Maren Rygh and Jordan Dierickx also picked up a win for the Hatters, a come-from-behind 2-1 victory at the number five position.

Stetson had been winless in six tries all-time against the Ospreys, including an 0-5 mark last season.  Friday's match will not count toward the regular season conference standings.

The Hatters will look to stay undefeated Saturday with matches against Webber and Jacksonville as the Beach N Boards Fest continues.
