Stetson Women’s Rowing is looking forward to and preparing hard for the upcoming weekend of racing against MAAC conference members Drake and Jacksonville on Saturday March 22 on Lake Beresford.
The Hatters are coming off of a loss to Wesleyan last weekend and are looking forward to racing again for the final time at home this season. The Hatters will be hitting the water with a Varsity 8, Second Varsity 8, Varsity 4, and a Second Varsity 4. Lineups are still in the works but include the full roster of athletes.
Drake has been training this week in Tampa and Jacksonville will be traveling down for the morning of racing. The course is a full 2000m straight course and all teams will have athletes working hard to set a precedence for the conference regatta which is the final weekend of April in Mercer County, New Jersey.
“This race is setting a bar for all the other members of the MAAC," said Stetson head coach Mark Wilson. "The MAAC consists mostly of schools in the Northern NJ, Southern NY, and CT areas with a few affiliate members such as Drake, JU and Stetson. We are very excited to have this opportunity to race each other and thank Drake for making the effort to travel to Florida.”
The MAAC conference is an automatic qualifier for the NCAA regatta and this weekend’s race will mean a great deal to the winner.
Racing on Lake Beresford will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until 11:30 a.m. The course runs 2000m from the southeast corner of the lake to the finish line, which is directly in front of the Stetson Property.
“We are thrilled to have our own race course and having the viewing right off our shore gives fans a good look at the finish of the races,” Wilson said.
The Hatters will have next weekend off while they continue to prepare for the FIRA conference meet in Sarasota April 4-5. The Stetson Waterfront is located at 2636 Alhambra Ave.
