The Stetson Hatters will face the Florida State Seminoles in the first round of the AVCA Collegiate Sand Volleyball National Championship at 11 a.m. ET on Friday, May 2, in Gulf Shores, Ala.
Winners of the Atlantic Sun Conference and one of just six teams to qualify for the national championship, the Hatters (18-4) earned the No. 6 seed for the double-elimination tournament and will face the No. 3 seed Seminoles (16-1) for the first time this season.
"We are extremely proud and honored that we will be representing the Atlantic Sun Conference at the AVCA championships," head coach Kristina Hernandez said. "I am also proud of the hard work our team has put in to get us here and look forward to seeing us compete at nationals."
The Stetson-FSU winner will advance to play No. 2 seed Pepperdine at 2 p.m., while the loser faces an elimination match at 6 p.m.
The semifinals and national championship will be played on Saturday, May 3.
The Hatters will also participate in Sunday's 16-team single-elimination Pairs Championship. Stetson's top seeded pairing of Kaley Melville and Kaylee Anderson are guaranteed one spot, while a second spot would be awarded if the Hatters advance to semifinals of the team tournament.
Melville and Julie Bassett participated in the AVCA Pairs Championship as an at-large selection in the 2012 season. The Hatters will be making their first appearance in the team championship.
