Stetson University senior outfielder Chrissy Morello (Ormond Beach, Fla.) has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District softball team for District IV, it was announced on Thursday.

The Capital One Academic All-America program is the top academic award program in college athletics and is administered by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Morello will advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.

An Elementary Education major with a 3.74 cumulative GPA, Morello is batting .319 with two home runs and 20 RBI this season. She is tied for the team lead with 51 hits and has scored 39 runs while also stealing 14 bases. She was named Atlantic Sun Player of the Week last season after batting .583 during the Stetson Classic.

For her career, Morello has collected 197 hits and owns a .310 batting average. She ranks among the school all-time leaders in hits, runs, stolen bases, and total bases.

A competitor on the field as well as in the classroom, Morello has twice earned Atlantic Sun Academic All-Conference honors. She was named an Atlantic Sun Scholar Athlete in 2012 and has been named an NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete every year.

Morello is the first Stetson softball player to earn academic all-district honors since Jill Semento in 2011.

The Hatters will face FGCU in the opening round of the A-Sun tournament on Wednesday.
