This past Saturday Stetson hosted it's annual Fall regatta that Hatter Classic. It was a great success with 5 teams represented, not including Stetson. Stetson was first represented by Taylor Heatherington in the novice singles event where he finished the 3 mile course in just over 20 minutes, which was less than a minute behind the fastest "varsity" single.
Stetson went on take first place with the Women's 8+. Rosemary Molloy, Katie Breller, Kendal Sweeney, Christina Kapusta, Alison Lucy, Chelsea Curto, Caitlin Burke, Jacqueline Horbert and coxswain Jenn Jones, a light weight women's 8, pulled an average split of 1:53 and beat two open weight women's boats. They finished with a time of 17 minutes, which was the second fastest time recorded that day. Their time was only beaten by a Men's Open Weight Varsity 8+.
The Men's open 4+ had an impressive showing as well with a silver medal in their event. Beating 3 of their 4 competitors with a time of 17:24.
The women's light weight 4+ also did well, coming in second place behind FIT open weight women's 4+. Both Stetson and FIT finished more than a minute and a half ahead of the rest of their event.
There was also a mixed 8's race where Stetson really showed it's strength, with their varsity mixed 8 coming in first and the alumni mixed 8 coming in a very close second.
The Novice Men's 4+ also performed very well, coming in first by more than 2 minutes on their competitors. And finishing with a time of 17:54, it was a very strong first race for them and they hope to carry that speed with them to the hooch next weekend, as does the rest of the team.
Also, thank you to all of the parents, volunteers, officials, and alumni who cam and helped make our race so successful this year. We hope to see you and more next weekend at the hooch and for our next home race and spring season kick off the Stetson Sprints.
