DeLand, Fla. - Stetson's Lindsey Caughel has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week. It is the first weekly conference award for the junior out of Orlando, Florida. Caughel was a member of the 2009 A-Sun All-Freshman Team.
Caughel was the Hatters' opening day starter and put his team on track for a series sweep of the University of Georgia Bulldogs over the weekend at Melching Field. Friday night he took the mound and tossed five complete innings allowing just one run on seven hits and struck out six batters. Caughel left the game with a 2-1 lead, yet did not register the win for the Hatters. Stetson eventually won by a score of 6-3.
"That was a nice game for the fans", said Stetson head coach Pete Dunn. "It was a well pitched game. Caughel gave us a great start and our bullpen did an incredible job as well."
The Hatters travel to Bethune-Cookman for a 6:00 p.m. game on Wednesday, and then return to DeLand to host the University of Maine in a four-game series beginning Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
