Orangeburg, S.C. - Host South Carolina State (4-0) handed the Stetson women's tennis team (2-1) its first setback of the season, defeating the Hatters 5-2 at the Bulldog Tennis Courts Friday afternoon. Junior Jen Miller (Tampa, Fla.) won both her singles and doubles matches for Stetson.
S.C. State won the doubles point to start the match by a 2-1 margin with only the duo of Miller and sophomore Diana Bukajeva (Riga, Latvia) winning 8-3 at #3 doubles over Katarina Barborikova and Laura Bosneag.
Miller claimed one of Stetson's two singles points in the match with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Bosneag on Court 6. Sophomore Lindsey Cable (Gainesville, Fla.) claimed the other point for the Hatters, outlasting Victoria Khatcei in three sets (6-1, 4-6, 6-4) on Court 5. The Bulldogs used straight set victories on Courts 2, 3 and 4 to lock up the victory. Junior Sara Lazarevic (Calgary, Alta.) took Suhaila Jad to three sets at #1 singles before falling 6-0, 1-6, 6-1.
Stetson was scheduled to follow up its visit to Orangeburg with a stop in Mount Pleasant, S.C. to face 70th-ranked College of Charleston at 1:00 pm Sunday, but that match has been cancelled due to the likelihood of bad weather in the area that day. The Hatters are now off until hosting Georgia Southern at noon Sunday, February 26. Live Scoring for that match will be available at GoHatters.com.
