Spartanburg, S.C. - Stetson Director of Tennis Pierre Pilote earned his 400th career victory late Saturday afternoon as the Hatters claimed a 4-3 victory at A-Sun rival USC Upstate in women's tennis action at the Upstate Tennis Complex. Stetson improved to 9-2, 3-1 Atlantic Sun while the Spartans dropped to 4-12, 1-3 A-Sun.

Pilote, who took over as Director of Tennis last summer and is leading the Stetson women's squad for the first time since 1999, holds a 37-25 all-time women's tennis record and is 363-118 at the helm of the Stetson men following that team's 4-3 win over the Spartans earlier today.

The Hatters claimed the doubles point to begin the match as sophomore Diana Bukajeva (Riga, Latvia) and junior Jen Miller (Tampa, Fla.) shut out Hannah Al-Sakati and Julie Bell 8-0 on Court 2, which was then followed by an 8-3 win on Court 3 for sophomore Lindsey Cable (Gainesville, Fla.) and senior Shannon Gunning (Boca Raton, Fla.).

Stetson got the three singles points they needed to take the match in straight sets. Bukajeva continued to flummox Al-Sakati, winning 6-0, 6-1 on Court 4, while Gunning closed out Talia Rojas 6-2, 6-2 on Court 2 and junior Clarke Tatje (Eustis, Fla.) pushed past Bell by a 6-4, 6-2 margin on Court 3. USC Upstate made it an even split and a 4-3 final score with wins in the other three matches.

"The women's team played an outstanding match, considering that they arrived in Spartanburg at 2:00 am this morning after their rain-delayed battle with ETSU," Pilote said. "They played with poise and confidence against a very tough opponent."

The Hatters return home to the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center to face West Virginia at 2:30 pm Tuesday, looking for their third win in as many tries against a BCS conference opponent. Stetson has already claimed home victories over Michigan State and Cincinnati in 2012. Live Scoring for the Stetson-WVU match will be available at
