DeLand, Fla. - 75th-ranked UNC Wilmington (13-5) handed the Stetson women's tennis team (11-5) a 5-2 defeat Thursday afternoon at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center. Singles wins for Stetson were achieved by sophomore Lindsey Cable (Gainesville, Fla.) and junior Jen Miller (Tampa, Fla.).
Sophomore Diana Bukajeva (Riga, Latvia) and Miller combined for an 8-4 doubles win on Court 3 over Miller Hales and Christina Riley, but the visiting Seahawks won the other two matches to claim the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead in the match. Both of those scores were 8-4 as well.
Miller defeated Casey Dashiell 6-4, 6-1 on Court 6 and Cable claimed a tiebreaker-in-lieu-of-third-set win by a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 score over Riley on Court 5 for Stetson's two singles points. UNC Wilmington earned four hard-fought victories on the top four courts to take the win home with them.
Stetson will travel to Fort Myers, Fla. for a 9:00 am Saturday match at Atlantic Sun Conference rival FGCU.
