SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Junior Victoria Troccoli earned her first shutout as a Hatter, while the Stetson women's soccer team (3-7-0, 1-1-0) evened its Atlantic Sun Conference record at 1-1 on Sunday afternoon. The Hatters defeated USC Upstate (2-9-0, 0-2-0) by a score of 2-0 behind goals from freshmen Rebecca Oser and Mara Keomanivane.

"It was a great game all the way around," Head Coach Julie Orlowski said. "A lot of players really responded to the pressure that they put on us, and it was a really good team effort today.  Also, we're very excited to get Victoria her first shutout of the year."

Oser put Stetson on the board just over 15 minutes into the game with a laser from 35 yards out.  The freshman became the eighth player on the team to score her first goal as a Hatter when the ball came out of the Upstate backfield and straight to the defender.  Oser fired a shot from the left side of the field, and hit the upper 90 of the far post to make it 1-0 in favor of Stetson.

The Hatters kept their lead at one score through halftime and finally added to it about 30 minutes into the second period.  Keomanivane received a ball on the right side of the field, and like Oser, attempted her shot from over 30 yards out.  The freshman midfielder similarly went far post and beat Upstate keeper Sarah Plantz to give Stetson some late-game insurance.

That was all the Hatters would need to hold on for the 2-0 victory.  Stetson outshot the Spartans 13-10 for the game, while recording seven corner kicks to Upstate's four.  Plantz finished with eight saves in the defeat, and Troccoli tallied two in her first shutout of the season.

Stetson, now 1-1 in A-Sun play, will next return home for a pair of games against Northern Kentucky and Lipscomb next weekend.
