The Stetson men's and women's cross country teams are set to
compete at the Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic this Saturday at the
Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista.
This event will have 22 teams for both the men and women,
with schools coming from the all over the southern United States, including
schools from Kansas and Texas.
"Disney is going to be good for us," head coach Joe
Matuszczak said. "Both the men and women will be competing against 22 teams.
This race does not necessarily have big teams, but it will still be
competitive, and it should be a fast course."
The Hatters are coming off a good race last Friday, one in
which the men took home first place and the women finished in fifth. Matuszczak
felt that the tougher courses before this race benefited the team as well as
allowing the runners to go for it.
"This was the first week I really took reins off,"
Matuszczak said. "Usually I have them run a certain pace, but this week I told
them to just go out and compete. Some did really well and they will learn from
this week. I also believe that the tougher courses at Embry-Riddle and UF are
getting us ready for the conference race, and very soon we will start to see
chunks of time come off the next couple races."
After this race, Stetson has just two meets left. They will
race in the UCF Black & Gold Invitational on October 12, and will finish
the season on October 27 when they compete in the Atlantic Sun Championships,
which is hosted by Florida Gulf Coast.
