Stetson University offensive line coach Terry Tilghman is known for a voice that cuts through the cacophony of sounds that are a part of daily football practice.

But, before he became “the loud coach” at Stetson, he was an all-star level football player at East Carolina University.

Recently, his alma mater recognized his accomplishments on the field by naming him their All-Time Offensive unit.

Tilghman is one of few in college athletics to have earned five letters during his playing career. He suffered an injury three games into his senior season and received a medical redshirt that allowed him to play an extra season.

He was a First-Team All-South Independent selection in 1994 for the Pirates. He played all five positions along the offensive line during his career. He received the Janet Overton Outstanding Senior Award in 1994. He was a member of offensive line group that produced three-straight 1,000-yard rushing seasons by Junior Smith.

The selection to the All-Time Offensive Team is a part of East Carolina’s celebration this year of 50 seasons at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.

Other members of the All-Time Offensive team were four members of the ECU Hall of Fame – quarterbacks Jeff Blake and David Garrard, all-time leading rusher Junior Smith and receiver Dwayne Harris. A total of 17 of the 22 players named to the first or second team played, or are currently playing, in the NFL.
