Seven matches, seven victories.
The Stetson University volleyball team has been perfect on its home court this season, and the Hatters will look to continue that streak this weekend as they host conference foes Mercer at 6 p.m. Friday and Kennesaw State at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Edmunds Center.
What does the spotless home record mean to the players?
"It means a lot because one of our preseason goals was to win all of our home games," sophomore Julie Bassett said. "Our fans want to see us win, we want to win, and we want to protect our home court. It means a lot, we are excited about it, and we want to keep it going."
Stetson has been breaking new ground all season, and the seven-game home court winning streak is no exception. Historical records dating back as far as 1980 show Stetson has never won seven straight matches at home, although the program originated prior to 1980.
The Hatters last won six straight at home between the 2005 and 2006 seasons. The dramatic five-set wins over UNF and Jacksonville last weekend pushed the current streak to seven.
The team's focus, however, is on what lies ahead. The unusal structuring of the conference schedule this season finds the Hatters playing their first five A-Sun contests at home. That means nine of the team's final 13 league games will be on the road, including the four in a row to close the regular season in mid-November.
"It is important that we have this home stand to start conference play, and the girls are taking advantage of it," Stetson head coach Tim Loesch said. "They are defending the home court and winning the close ones here, and that is vital because we are going to be tested on the road (later this season)."
Stetson is hitting .264 at home and averaging better than 12.5 kills per set. The team has lost just five sets out of the 26 that have been played at the Edmunds Center.
General Admission tickets are $5 ($4 for seniors/students) while all Stetson University faculty, staff, and students are free with their Stetson ID. Fans with a ticket to Saturday's Stetson football game will be admitted for $1 on Friday and Saturday.
Live video and mobile friendly live stats for both matches will be available through HatterVision and GoHatters.com.
