Hatters Hit the Road This Weekend to Play Upstate, ETSU

The Stetson men’s soccer team will head back on the road this weekend to continue Atlantic Sun Conference play at USC Upstate and ETSU on Friday and Sunday, respectively.

The Hatters (1-7-2, 0-2-0) opened A-Sun play this past weekend, falling to Northern Kentucky and Lipscomb at home. Stetson gave up goals late in the second half of both games, which led to the pair of losses.

USC Upstate (0-6-1, 0-1-0) welcomes Stetson to Spartanburg for a 7:00 p.m. contest on Friday night. The Spartans have yet to earn a victory in 2013 with their only point coming in a 1-1 tie at Appalachian State. USC Upstate lost its first A-Sun match by a score of 3-1 at Mercer.

ETSU (4-3-3, 2-0-0), meanwhile, opened up A-Sun play with wins at North Florida and Mercer. The Bucs topped the Ospreys 1-0 and defeated the Bears 2-0 as goalkeeper Ryan Coulter recorded his sixth and seventh shutouts of the season en route to a conference defensive player of the week honor.

• Stetson holds a 4-1-1 advantage over USC Upstate in the all-time series between the two teams, which dates back to a 1-0 Hatter win in 2007.

• Last season the Spartans picked up their first victory over Stetson with a 3-0 win in DeLand.

• ETSU holds a slight 4-3-1 advantage over Stetson in the all-time series between the two teams, which dates back to a 4-1 Hatter victory in 2008.

• Last season ETSU defeated Stetson by a score of 1-0 in DeLand.

• Senior Chase Rodgers became the first Hatter to score multiple goals in 2013 this past weekend. The defender scored against NKU to notch his second of the year.

• Six other Hatters have scored goals in 2013; Evan Jimmo, Gianluca Carbone, JJ Bostic, Dwight Lodge, Justin Shirah, and Raffaele Centofanti.

• Rodgers and Centofanti lead Stetson in scoring this season with four points each. The latter has one goal and two assists on the year.

• Senior Andreas Schnabl’s shutout against UMass Lowell was the 13th of his career, which is a school record.

• Schnabl also currently tops the Stetson record books with a career goals-against-average of 1.29.

• Schnabl’s eight saves against Grand Canyon tied a career best (Also 8 at FIU on 9/9/11). It tied for the most since Logan Potter’s 13 vs. Lipscomb on 10/9/09.
