Women's Tennis Wins in Consolation Play on Friday

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Three Hatters won in consolation play as the Stetson women's tennis team played in day two of competition at the Bedford Cup on Friday.

Senior MayaBlue Stauffer-MacDowell defeated Stephanie Miller of Florida A&M by a score of 6-1, 6-0 to advance to the third round of the consolation bracket.

Freshmen Brittany Hill and Marta Gonzalez both won on Friday and will face each other in the consolation bracket on Saturday.  Hill topped Elizabeth Clayton of Florida A&M 6-3, 6-0, while Gonzalez won 7-5, 6-0 over Valentina Beresinte of Bethune-Cookman.

Stauffer-MacDowell and sophomore Andrea Crespo were the only Hatter duo to win in doubles competition on Friday.  The pair topped Cartwright/Pederson of Florida State by a score of 8-6 to advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday.
