The Stetson University women's basketball team has been picked to finish second in the 2013-14 Atlantic Sun Conference preseason coaches poll, which was released on Thursday.

Senior Sasha Sims (Fayetteville, Ga.) was tabbed as the Atlantic Sun Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, and she was also selected to the preseason all-conference team.

"I have always said Sasha is the most versatile player in the league," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "She can do everything.  She can go out on the perimeter, she can play the post, and we use her in a variety of ways.  She also blocks a lot of shots for someone who is not extremely tall.  She is well-deserving of both honors."

Last season, Sims averaged 12.0 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game and earned second-team all-conference honors. Sims averaged better than 17 points per game during the Atlantic Sun Championship and was named to the all-tournament team. She has already surpassed 1000 points for her career and is just 16 blocks shy of breaking the school-record in that category.

The Hatters received 86 points in the coaches poll, trailing only preseason favorite FGCU (97 points).  Following Stetson in the poll was Mercer (83 points), Northern Kentucky (66), ETSU (49), UNF (49), Jacksonville (43), USC Upstate (41), Lipscomb (22), and Kennesaw State (14).

The Hatters were also picked to finish second in the league's media poll.

Fresh off a school-record 24-win season, a second conference championship in three years, and #14 seed in the NCAA tournament, Stetson will open the 2013-14 campaign on Nov. 8 at Oklahoma in the Preseason WNIT.

Season tickets can be purchased online at or by calling the Stetson ticket office at (386) 738-HATS.

Note: College Sports Madness also selected Sims to its Atlantic Sun preseason all-conference team.
