The Stetson men’s soccer team is set to conclude the regular season with a pair of road games this weekend. The Hatters play at Jacksonville Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. and then finish the campaign at Florida Atlantic on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
Stetson is aiming to clinch a berth in the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament with a win over the in-state rival Dolphins. Before missing the playoffs last season, the Hatters earned a spot in the tournament for 14 straight seasons from 1998-2011.
Stetson and Jacksonville are both tied with Mercer with seven points in league play. FGCU, ETSU, Lipscomb, and North Florida have already earned spots in the conference tournament.
The Hatters (3-9-3, 2-4-1) have won two out of their last three matches, including a home victory over FGCU, which was the Eagles’ only A-Sun loss of the season. Stetson most recently lost on the road to UNF by a score of 1-0 in overtime.
The Dolphins (4-10-2, 2-4-1) also recently competed against their River City rivals, playing to a 1-1 double overtime draw against UNF on Wednesday night. Jacksonville hasn’t won in A-Sun play since back-to-back victories over Mercer and USC Upstate in mid-October.
Florida Atlantic (6-6-2, 1-5-1), meanwhile, will welcome Stetson for a non-conference tilt on Sunday after hosting Tulsa in the Owls’ final Conference USA match of the season on Friday. Last season Stetson defeated FAU by a score of 2-1 in overtime in DeLand.
