The Stetson men’s tennis team will play 11 out of its 18 dual matches on the 2014 schedule in the friendly confines of the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center, as announced by Stetson Director of Tennis Pierre Pilote on Wednesday.

“The men’s team will face a challenging non-conference schedule with a total of four teams that held a recent national ranking (Georgia Tech, Georgia State, South Alabama, UAB),” Associate Head Coach Christophe Noblet said. “That should help us prepare for the level of competition we will be facing in conference play.”

The season will begin on Saturday Jan. 11 when the Hatters travel to Atlanta to take on Georgia Tech. Stetson will return home to hold the Second Annual Alumni Match on Jan. 18 before competing in the ITF Future USA-F4 Tournament from Jan. 24-26.

A home match against Georgia Southern kicks off the month of February (Feb. 2), before Stetson travels to Boca Raton to take on Florida Atlantic on Feb. 14 in the Hatters’ final non-conference road tilt of the spring.

Currently #61 in the nation, Georgia State comes to DeLand on Feb. 28 in the first of five straight home non-conference contests for the Hatters. Niagara (Mar. 3), South Alabama (Mar. 5), Presbyterian (Mar. 7), and Appalachian State (Mar. 12) will visit the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center before Stetson opens up Atlantic Sun Conference play.

The Hatters begin league action at USC Upstate and #67 ETSU on Mar. 14 and 15, respectively. Stetson then returns home for five straight in DeLand to complete the March schedule. Green Bay (Mar. 18) and UAB (Mar. 25) will compete in non-conference competition, while #71 North Florida (Mar. 22), Mercer (Mar. 28), and Kennesaw State (Mar. 29) conclude the Hatters’ home A-Sun slate.

Stetson finishes the 2014 regular season on the road at Lipscomb on Apr. 4, at Northern Kentucky on Apr. 5, and at Florida Gulf Coast on Apr. 12.

“The A-Sun is strengthening with the addition of three new head coaches,” Noblet said. “Each weekend of conference competition will be exciting and we expect to perform well.”

The A-Sun Championship is scheduled for Apr. 18-20 in Jacksonville.
