Quickly becoming one of the top scoring tandems in the Atlantic Sun Conference, senior Sasha Sims (Fayetteville, Ga.) and rookie Brianti Saunders (Hilliard, Fla.) have swept the league's Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week awards, the league announced on Monday.

Sims and Saunders combined for 85 of the team's 167 points last week as the Hatters (3-2) claimed a pair of victories over Indiana State and Bethune-Cookman.

Sims scored 24 points, 13 coming in the second half, in Stetson's 90-74 win over the Sycamores on Monday. She hit three three-pointers and connected on 11-of-13 free throws attempts. On Wednesday, Sims poured in a career-high 28 points in Stetson's 77-63 road win against the Lady Wildcats. She shot 53% from the floor (9-17) and 90% from the free throw line (9-10). For the week she hit 20 of her 23 free throw attempts, including 13 in a row during one stretch.

For the season, Sims ranks second in the conference in scoring (21.6), while also averaging 4.8 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game. It was her second career Player of the Week selection.

Saunders, meanwhile, earned the league's Freshman of the Week award for the second consecutive week. On Monday she scored 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting against Indiana State, the preseason favorite in the Missouri Valley Conference. On Wednesday Saunders netted a career-high 18 points at Bethune-Cookman, where she shot 58% from the floor (7-12), hit four three-pointers, and pulled down nine rebounds. She also added five assists and three steals while playing 36 minutes.

For the week Saunders shot 54.5% from the floor (12-22) and 50% from behind the arc (6-12).

Saunders currently ranks second on the team in scoring (13.0) and rebounding (7.0), and she leads the team in three-point field goals with 11.

Stetson visits Florida State at 7 p.m. Friday night in a game broadcast live by ESPN3.
