Following a four-game home-stand, the Stetson men’s basketball team hits the road on Thursday for the first time since Dec. 7. The Hatters (3-12, 1-2) will be in search of their first win away from home when taking on Jacksonville (6-9, 2-2) at 7:00 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Arena.
Stetson is coming off of a pair of losses to Northern Kentucky and Florida Gulf Coast, but the Hatters have still won three of their last six contests. Senior Willie Green led the squad with a game high 24 points against the Eagles, upping his scoring average in league games to 16.7 points per game, which ranks the forward fourth in the Atlantic Sun.
Jacksonville has played .500 basketball through its first two weekends of conference play. The Dolphins lost big to Mercer and toppled Kennesaw State at home, and then split a pair of road games, falling to Northern Kentucky and defeating Lipscomb. Jarvis Haywood leads Jacksonville with 17.1 points per game this season.
Stetson and Jacksonville split the regular season series a year ago with each team winning on its home floor. The Hatters won 81-72 in DeLand on Jan. 7, while the Dolphins edged out Stetson 71-70 at Swisher Gymnasium on Jan. 31.
Jacksonville holds a 44-33 advantage in the storied history between these two teams, which dates back to a 108-91 Stetson road win back in 1958. Stetson has won three out of the last five meetings, but the Dolphins have come out victorious in the last seven tilts held in the River City.
