The Stetson men’s basketball team begins the back half of Atlantic Sun Conference play on Friday, playing in the CSS/A-Sun Game of the Week at Florida Gulf Coast. The Hatters are scheduled to challenge the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Comcast Sports Southeast (CSS) and ESPN3.
Even though Stetson (6-15, 4-5) is coming off of a loss at Mercer on Jan. 25, the Hatters have still won three out of their last four games, including a road victory over Kennesaw State on Jan. 23. Senior Willie Green has led Stetson in scoring in each of the last four contests, including back-to-back 24-point outings.
Defending A-Sun Champion FGCU (13-9, 7-2) finished the first half of league play in second place, just one game back of league-leading Mercer. The Eagles are coming off of a split at Mercer and Kennesaw State, but are a staggering 8-1 in the friendly confines of Alico Arena.
Back on Jan. 5 Stetson and FGCU met for the first time since the Eagles knocked the Hatters out of the A-Sun Tournament in the semifinals last season. After hanging with FGCU for 35 minutes, the Eagles went on a late run to finish with a 68-55 victory at the Edmunds Center.
Winning the last two meetings between the squads, FGCU now leads the all-time series 8-6 over Stetson. The Eagles hold a 4-2 advantage in Fort Myers.
Friday night’s game can be watched live on Comcast Sports Southeast (CSS) or ESPN3, and on tape delay (9:00 p.m.) on Bright House Sports Network with Matt Stewart and Sonny Smith on the call.
