It was not the finish to the regular season the Hatters were hoping for, but a new season will commence at 7 p.m. Tuesday night as no. 2 seed Stetson hosts no. 7 seed Kennesaw State in the Atlantic Sun Tournament quarterfinals at the Edmunds Center.
The game will be broadcast live on ASun.TV and on WSBB AM1230 New Smyrna Beach, AM1490 DeLand, and online at myam1230.com.
The Hatters finished the regular season with a brilliant 24-6 record overall, 16-2 in the Atlantic Sun. Stetson is looking to bounce back from a one-point overtime loss to Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday.
"We are motivated, and we are ready," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said. "I thought Kennesaw played us a lot tougher here than at their place. They are a team that has gotten better, so we are clearly going to have to be ready. It is a one game season right now, and we have to stay locked-in and focused on the team in front of us."
Stetson swept the season series from the Owls (6-23), earning a 98-75 win in Kennesaw on Jan. 18 and a 87-57 victory in DeLand on Feb. 13. Amber Porter averaged 20.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 4.5 blocks in the two games vs. KSU.
The winner of Tuesday's game will face the winner of the USC Upstate vs. ETSU quarterfinal game. The semifinals and championship game will be hosted by the highest remaining seed, which would be FGCU if the Eagles defeat Lipscomb in their quarterfinal match-up. The winner of the single-elimination tournament will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
Stetson, the defending Atlantic Sun Conference champion, is 8-1 in its last nine A-Sun tournament games. The Hatters will be hosting a postseason game for the first time in 17 years.
"It's going to be fun," Bria said. "It's always nice to be on your home floor."
