DELAND, Fla. – Goal keeper Caili Guilday added to her nation leading save total with 15 Wednesday night as the Stetson University lacrosse team fell to No. 4 Florida 23-1 at the Athletic Training Center. Guilday made 11 stops in the first half and four in the second to give her a national best of 134.
The Hatters bested the Gators in total saves with their 15 to UF’s three. Guilday played a little more than 50 minutes against the fourth best team in the country, giving way for Whitney Myers for the final 10.
Scoring the lone goal for Stetson was Mary Kate O’Sullivan who put one past Gator goal keeper Mary-Sean Wilcox off of a free position shot with just one second on the clock before the first half buzzer sounded. It was O’Sullivan’s eighth of the season, making her just one shy of the team lead.
Leading the way for Stetson when it came to ground balls against the Gators was Guilday, with four. Lindsay Summers had the next most with her pair. Five separate Hatters, including O’Sullivan and Summers combined to fire off Stetson’s handful of shots toward the Gator goal.
Stetson and Florida have now met twice in their brief intrastate rivalry, with Wednesday’s contest being the first time the two met in Deland. Last season both clubs squared off in Gainesville with the Gators ranked No. 2 in the nation.
The Hatters (0-12) next take on Kennesaw State in their A-Sun opener, Saturday, April 5 in Georgia. Game time between the Hats and Owls is scheduled for 1 p.m.
