DELAND, Fla. – The Stetson University men’s tennis team will close out its 2014 regular season with a match at rival Florida Gulf Coast, Saturday, Apr. 12, at 1 p.m., in Fort Myers.
The Hatters (10-8, 5-2) are winners of four straight, having downed Mercer (4-0), Kennesaw State (5-2), Lipscomb (4-1) and Northern Kentucky (6-1) in consecutive fashion.
The Eagles enter the contest, like Stetson, on a four-match win streak, having beaten four straight A-Sun opponents. FGCU is 10-9 on the season and holds a 1-5 conference mark, but they have not beaten the Hatters in their six previous attempts, dating back to the 2008 season.
“FGCU has been playing very well this year,” associate head coach Christophe Noblet said. “As far as conference standings go, both teams have the same record and have beaten as well as lost to the same opponents, so undoubtedly this should be a close match.”
Last season Stetson edged the Eagles 4-3 at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center in DeLand, and the last time these two schools met up at the FGCU Tennis Complex was in 2012, with Stetson winning 5-2.
“Even though we would like to play our last match of the regular season at home, the team is looking forward to traveling together,” Noblet added. “Our chemistry is excellent, and the most recent road trip really brought the players closer together.”
