Four consecutive tournaments to open the season and eight home matches highlight the 2014 Stetson University volleyball schedule, which was released on Monday.

"We are looking forward to a challenging schedule and building on the team’s success from last year," first-year head coach Kristina Hernandez said.  "There is a great balance of tough non-conference match-ups that will assist our team as we prepare for the Atlantic Sun portion of the schedule."

The Hatters will open the season the weekend of Aug. 29-30 at the FAU Invitational in Boca Raton, Fla. Stetson will face McNeese State, Bethune-Cookman, and tournament-host Florida Atlantic to begin the 2014 campaign.

The Hatters will then travel to Charleston, S.C., on back-to-back weekends to play in a pair of tournaments hosted by The Citadel and the College of Charleston.  On Sept. 5-6, Stetson will square off against Charleston Southern, North Carolina A&T and The Citadel at McAlister Field House.  On Sept. 12-13, the Hatters will face Cal State Fullerton, the College of Charleston and Wake Forest at TD Arena.

Stetson will travel to Chattanooga, Tenn. for its final regular season tournament Sept. 19-20.  The Hatters will battle Chattanooga, UT Martin and South Carolina State during the two-day Scenic City Showdown.

Stetson's home opener will take place Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. against Bethune-Cookman, marking the second meeting of the season between the "Hats" and "Cats."  The two Volusia County rivals will complete their three-game season series on Oct. 22 in Daytona Beach.

The Atlantic Sun Conference schedule will once again feature a double round-robin format as the Hatters will play all seven league opponents once at home and once on the road. At the Edmunds Center, Stetson will face Jacksonville (Oct. 3), North Florida (Oct. 4), Northern Kentucky (Oct. 17), Lipscomb (Oct. 18), Florida Gulf Coast (Oct. 25), Kennesaw State (Nov. 8) and USC Upstate (Nov. 9).

Following the regular season, the top six teams in the league will compete for the Atlantic Sun Championship and the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.  Florida Gulf Coast will serve as the tournament host.

The Hatters posted an 18-win season in 2013 (18-16) and qualified for the conference tournament for the first time since 1995.
