DeLAND—Florida Tech’s Trey Collins scored the game’s only goal early in the second half to lead the Panthers to a 1-0 exhibition win over Stetson, Saturday at the Athletic Training Center.

Collins’ strike came just two minutes into the second half when he blasted a shot past Stetson goalkeeper Paul Ladwig, who had six saves on the night.

The Hatters had several opportunities throughout the game. Ross Morison missed a chance to tie the game midway through the second half when his shot from up close was just wide of the goal. JJ Bostic’s near-point blank shot with less than five minutes to play was stopped by Florida Tech keeper Sofus Rasmussen.

The Panthers out-shot Stetson, 14-8, for the match. The Tech duo of Mitch Thorn and Rasmussen stopped three shots. Morison, Bostic and Lucas Diniz each had two shots for the Hatters.

With exhibition games in their rearview mirror, the Hatters open the regular season when they face Elon in the opening game of the Nike Invitational, 5 p.m., Friday in Durham, N.C. The Hatters also face Duke on Sunday, August 31 at 2:30 p.m.
