The Stetson softball team dropped both ends of an Atlantic Sun Conference doubleheader on Saturday, falling 3-0 and 8-0 to USC Upstate at Cyrill Stadium in Spartanburg, S.C.

The Hatters (20-15, 3-8 A-Sun) managed just seven hits on the day, all singles, including two each by Chrissy Morello, Demi Meza and Meredith Owen.

The Spartans (31-3, 12-1 A-Sun) extended their winning streak to 10.

Game three of the series will be played at 1 p.m. Sunday with live video on ASun.TV.

In game one, Morello spoiled Upstate pitcher Hannah Alexander's bid for a perfect game with a one-out single in the top of the seventh inning. Alexander had retired the first 19 batters she faced before Morello's base hit down the left field line. Jessica Griffin then flied out to deep center field before Meza singled to bring the tying run to the plate for Stetson. Owen, however, ripped a line drive right to Meredith Barnes in left field for the final out of the game.

Owen started in the circle for Stetson and pitched superbly against one of the top scoring teams in the country. Upstate, averaging over seven runs per game this season, scored once in the bottom of the first inning, but Owen pitched out of jams in the first, second, and fourth innings to keep the Hatters within a run. She also retired the side in order in the third and fifth innings, but the Spartans finally broke through with two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to cap the scoring.

In the nightcap, Upstate took advantage of three Stetson errors and three hits-batsmen to score six runs in the first two innings.

Jamie Ujvari took over from there, scattering five hits over six innings to earn the win for the Spartans.  USC Upstate scored once in the fifth and once in the sixth to close the doubleheader.

Notes: Meredith Owen made her 84th career appearance, the seventh-most in school history ... Mallory Brooks made a nice catch in right field in game two robbing Cheyenne Griffin of extra bases ... Chrissy Morello is batting .480 (12-for-25) in her career against USC Upstate ... Demi Meza extended her hitting streak to five.
