Meredith Owen with singled, homered, and drove in all three runs as Stetson defeated Bethune-Cookman 3-1 Sunday afternoon at Patricia Wilson Field.
Sarah Read tossed a two-hitter in the circle as Stetson improved to 6-1 on the season.
The Hatters collected eight hits in the game but scored just three runs, four fewer than their season average coming into the game.
"I was a little disappointed we only scored three runs," Stetson head coach Frank Griffin said. "I felt like we weren't focused at the plate and I was a little disappointed in our offense. Then we had two errors to boot. So yes it was a win, but we are better than that."
Read was stellar in the circle, scattering two singles and allowing just one run en route to the complete game victory. She struck out six and walked three.
"I was very impressed with Sarah," Griffin said. "She kept her poise, even in tight situations where the tying run was at the plate. She pitched with a lot of confidence, her control was there, and her ball was moving. It was a good day for us in that regard."
As she has done all season, freshman Jessie TenBroeck used her speed to help generate the first run of the game. After beating out a bunt single to lead off the bottom of the first, TenBroeck stole second, moved to third on Chrissy Morello's grounder, and scored on a single to left by Owen.
The Hatters added two more runs in the third when Owen hit her third home run of the season, a blast over the bleachers in left field with Morello on base.
Read made the lead hold up, allowing just one Wildcats run in the fifth.
"I thought we did really great as a team," Read said. "I tried to stay confident and not overthink things or worry if I gave up a hit or a walk. I knew the defense would have my back."
The Hatters are hitting .310 as a team and are outscoring their opponents 46-10 on the season. TenBroeck and Read were selected for the Hatter Invitational all-tournament team.
Stetson is idle next weekend but will return to action Feb. 28 at the UCF Invitational in Orlando, Fla.
