Dunnellon, Fla. – Stetson senior women’s golfer Mallory Viera continued her string of solid play on Tuesday in the final round of the MSU Ocala Spring Invitational to earn a fourth place finish.
It is the second top 10 finish, and first in the top five, for Viera this season. Her last top five finish came in the 2013 Atlantic Sun Conference championship, when she tied for fourth.
Viera posted a third consecutive round of one-over par 73 to finish the tournament, hosted by Morehead State University at Juliette Fall Golf Resort, with an overall score of 219.
Two other Hatters earned top 20 finishes in the tournament as senior Jenna Hoecker and freshman Alessandra Kutz tied for 14th. Hoecker finished with a 77 on Tuesday while Kutz, who was playing as an individual, closed with a one-under par 71. The duo finished in a group of players tied at 225 overall.
Daytona State College coasted to a six shot team victory in the tournament thanks to the play of Tiffany Chan and So Young Hwang. That pair finished first and second respectively in the tournament with Chan’s final 206 easily outpacing the field for medalist honors. Hwang was seven shots back in second with a 213.
Houston Baptist (895) finished second to DSC (889) while North Florida (902) finished third. Toledo (905) and Murray State (911) rounded out the top five teams.
Ohio’s Hailey Hrynewich finished third individually, with her score of 218 one shot better than Viera.
As a team, the Hatters tied the host team for eighth place with a score of 917.
For the Hatters, seniors Ryan Ashburn and Claudia Redinger tied for 52nd with scores of 237 while senior Sammi Smith tied for 65th with a score of 241. Freshman Giulia Vandenberg, playing as an individual, finished 87th with a score of 257.
The Hatters will have one final tune-up tournament prior to the A-Sun Championship (April 14-16). Stetson will compete in the Bash at the Beach at LPGA in Daytona Beach on April 5-6.
