In a rare tripleheader on Saturday, the Stetson sand volleyball team won twice, defeating both Jacksonville and UAB by identical 3-2 scores before falling to third-ranked Florida State 5-0 at the JU Easter Sand Volleyball Tournament in Jacksonville, Fla.

The Hatters (9-7, 3-1 A-Sun) opened the day with a key A-Sun win over conference foe Jacksonville. One day after falling to the Dolphins 3-2, Stetson returned the favor, winning at the no. 3, 4, and 5 positions. Katie DiGirolamo and Jordan Dierickx picked up the decisive win at the no. 3 spot, winning 15-9 in a third-set tiebreak.

Stetson also avenged an earlier loss this season to UAB, topping the Blazers at the no. 2, 3, and 5 pairs. Maren Rygh and Savannah Byl earned a 2-1 win at the no. 2 spot, winning 15-12 in the third set. Alisha Hoffman and Catherine Coston also picked up a three-set victory at the no. 3 spot, taking the decisive frame 16-14.

Hoffman and Coston finished the weekend with a 4-1 mark.

Stetson's no. 1 pair of Julie Bassett and Kaley Melville nearly toppled Florida State's top pair before falling in three sets 17-21, 21-16, 15-13.

"I am real proud of the team for bouncing back and getting an important conference win and region win today," Stetson head coach Tim Loesch said. "Although we did not win against Florida State, our top two pairs of Julie Bassett and Kaley Melville and Savannah Byl and Maren Rygh played extremely well against two of the top pairs in the nation."

The Hatters are back home at 2 p.m. Wednesday to take on the UNF Ospreys in a key A-Sun doubleheader.
