Chrissy Morello went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and Meredith Owen picked up her 21st win of the season as Stetson defeated visiting Jacksonville 8-3 in an Atlantic Sun Conference game at Patricia Wilson Field.

The Hatters (33-11, 16-7 A-Sun) played small ball with 10 singles and five stolen bases to remain in second place in the league standings.  Stetson will need to win two of its final three games at UNF this week to capture a first-round bye in the A-Sun tournament.

"It was sad to know it was the seniors last home game," Stetson head coach Frank Griffin said.  "It was exciting to see Chrissy in her last at-bat get a hit, steal two bases and then score.  Meredith got a strikeout on the last batter she faced.  It was a good day."

Stetson scored two runs in the first inning and five in the second, then held off the Dolphins (20-29, 8-16) the rest of the way.

"You have to give Jacksonville a lot of credit," Griffin said.  "Those kids come out and hit the ball.  They are going to get their swings in, they are going to make good contact.  I thought we played very good defense today and 'Mo' pitched a good game, but even with that said, they scored three runs."

Jessie TenBroeck and Morello gave Stetson a strong 1-2 punch at the top of the order Sunday.  The duo combined to reach base seven times, steal five bases and score five runs.

Jessica Griffin added a two-run double and Amanda Grimaldo also drove in a pair to help lead the offense.

Owen (21-6) picked up her 65th career win in the circle, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out six.  She did not walk a batter.

Victoria Brown suffered the loss for JU.

Stetson's three-game series at UNF begins Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Notes: Stetson's five stolen bases was a season-high. TenBroeck had three including one steal of third and Morello had two ... Shortstop Amanda Grimaldo turned a nifty double play in the second inning, diving for a ground ball near second, tapping the base with her glove, and getting up in time to throw the batter out at first ... Brittany Hawn extended her errorless streak to 24 games ... The Hatters tied a school-record for most A-Sun wins in a season with 16.
